Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about gameplay, your account, and getting help.
The Basics
What is Thronestead?
Thronestead is a medieval strategy game that runs entirely in your browser. You rule a growing kingdom, construct buildings, train armies, negotiate on the open market, and compete against other players in a persistent world driven by a tick-based simulation.
How does the tick system work?
The world advances in discrete steps called ticks. Every fifteen minutes a new tick fires: buildings finish construction, troops complete training, resources are harvested, and battles resolve. The current tick number and countdown to the next one are always visible in the top bar.
What is Founding Protection?
Every new ruler begins under Founding Protection, a grace period that shields you from hostile attacks. You can build, train, and explore without risk until you hit certain milestones or the timer expires. Check the Onboarding Hub for your remaining protection window.
What are Founding Identities?
During signup you pick one to three identities -- Builder, Strategist, Merchant, Warlord, or Diplomat. These tailor your early recommendations and onboarding path. They are not permanent and do not lock you into a single playstyle.
Buildings and Economy
How do I construct or upgrade a building?
Open the Castle page and select a structure. If you meet the resource and population requirements, click "Queue Upgrade" to add it to your build queue. The upgrade completes after the listed number of ticks.
What resources exist in the game?
There are seven raw resources: Wood, Stone, Iron, Food, Fuel, Hide, and Fiber. Copper is the main currency used for trade, building costs, and policy activation. Crafted materials such as Planks, Blocks, Ingots, Leather, and Cloth can be produced from raw resources on the Crafting page.
How does trading work on the Market?
On the Market page you can post sell listings at a price you choose, or buy from other players' active listings. Every trade is queued as an intent and settles at the next tick boundary.
Military and Combat
How do I train soldiers?
Visit the Training page, pick a unit type, set a quantity, and confirm. You need the right military building (Barracks, Archery Range, Stables, etc.) at the required level, plus enough resources and available population.
How does a battle play out?
From the War Room you declare war on a target. Review the pre-combat forecast before committing. Once launched, your army marches for several ticks, then the battle resolves automatically. Results appear on the Battles page. For low-risk practice, try a Field Drill instead.
Can I recall an army after launching an attack?
Only while march progress is below 50%. After that threshold your forces are committed. Monitor active marches on the Battles page.
What happens when I lose a battle?
Your kingdom enters Recovery mode. The Recovery page shows your losses, remaining assets, and a step-by-step rebuild plan with milestone targets.
Research and Crafting
How does Research work?
The Research page lets you browse research groups, inspect prerequisites and conflicts, and queue research decisions. Each research item takes a set number of ticks to complete. You can pause, resume, or cancel active research from the queue controls.
How does Crafting work?
The Crafting page shows available recipes that convert raw resources into crafted materials. Select a recipe, set a quantity, preview the cost, and submit. Crafting orders enter a queue and complete over ticks, just like building upgrades and training.
Queues and Policies
Where can I see everything my kingdom is working on?
The Queues page gives you a single view of every active, paused, and completed task -- building upgrades, training orders, and market trades.
What are Policies?
Policies are kingdom-wide strategic stances that offer bonuses and trade-offs. The Policies page is currently in preview -- you can browse the policy catalog (including entries like Warmonger Doctrine, Stronghold Doctrine, and Merchant Charter), but the runtime for activating policies is not yet live.
Account and Support
How do I change my preferences?
Open the Settings page from the sidebar after signing in. You can adjust display preferences like reduced motion and dense tables, manage notifications, and more.
How do I reach the support team?
Use the Contact Support page to open a ticket. You can also reach it from Settings while signed in.
Can I permanently delete my account?
Yes. The Account Delete page (found in Settings) guides you through permanent removal. This action cannot be reversed.
